The
earliest use of "Plaster" dates back to the beginning
of man with their earthen covered dwellings. Plaster was utilized
by many civilizations as an expression of their resourcefulness
and culture. The Eygyptian Pharaohs used plaster to glorify their
pyramids and palaces. Islamic cultures made use of plaster stucco
as a decorative application in their mosques and palaces.
Further
improvments were made in plaster with the addition of lime, sand
and marble dust, the amount of time it sat prior to its use and
the manner of its application as civililations advanced. They applied
it in a few lean coats and burnished it with a trowl, similar to
the look and feel of the Italian Plasters used today. Polished plaster
was used in Greek architecture and the Roman Empire both in and
out of their most ornate structures. Italian Plaster was being used
in its most impressive form during the Renaissance. A select few
continue those traditional methods today.
Venetian
Plaster is a 1980's decorative wall treatment term used in the United
States, due to the association with Decorative Stucco's presence
everywhere in Venice, Italy (It was a out of necessity, due to Venices
high water table, marble slabs were too heavy and Italian Plaster
is light weight, durable and can have a luster like marble). It's
actually called Italian Plaster or Decorative Stucco in Italy, and
is used in the finest buildings throughout the country, europe and
the world.
All of the Venetian Plaster, Italian Plaster or Decorative Stucco
that "Brush and Roll, Paint and Faux" uses, is imported
from Safra Colors of Italy. The application and methods we use,
have been passed down from generation to generation and shared with
us. From the highly lustrous, rich in visual depth Veneziano, to
the aged and cracked, old world appeal of a Rasa Calce. We look
forward to taking the time and care and providing you with the Italian
Plaster your palace deserves. Ciao, James Viviano
